Marcia Eames-Sheavly
Marcia Eames-Sheavly’s watercolors reflect a love of, and interest in, the plant world. As a horticulturist at Cornell University, painting gardens, landscapes and flowers represents a different perspective of that vocation, and provides her with the opportunity to view a garden, or a flower, in a more painterly light. Her watercolors are not grandiose, but they evoke a sense of place that is very personal.
At Cornell, Marcia creates illustrations for publications, book chapters, magazines, and exhibits, and her watercolors have appeared on the covers of six publications. She teaches undergraduate courses that explore plants as a subject of art, and plants used in or as art, such as living sculpture. She is the youth program leader for the Cornell Garden-Based Learning Institute, and has served as an artist in residence at a children’s garden in Michigan. Marcia has shown her work widely throughout the central New York region.
