Description
White-footed mice inhabit wooded and brushy areas of the eastern U.S. They are generally active year-round. Nests are constructed in concealed locations; they occasionally use abandoned burrows of other small mammals. The diet of these omnivorous creatures includes nuts, seeds, fruits, beetles, caterpillars and other species of insects. Caches of food are stored near the nest in the fall. A favorite food is the center of black cherry pits.
