Description
No other birds are so superbly adapted for water than the penguin. Their countershading; dark above, light below, serves as a natural camoflage. Their wings, now useless for flight, have become flippers.
Penguins hunt for food where the shoals of plankton and small fish are thickest, from just below the surface to 50-60 feet below the surface. Adeliw penguins specialize in eating krill, small shrimp-like organisms which are also the principal food of baleen whales.
