DESCRIPTION

In ancient times the apple was regarded as a sacred fruit providing man with love, joy, and wisdom. The apple was a symbol of Aphrodite, the goddess of beauty, love and wisdom (cut in half transversely an apple reveals the 5 point star of Aphrodite).

In many myths and legends giving apples or an apple bough meant the gift of love.

In Celtic times apples were considered the food of the gods and the ancient Druids and country folk wassailed the apple tree to ensure good crops (wassail: a salutation used when presenting a cup of drink). At harvest time the very last apple was always left on the tree as a gift to the spirit of the tree–the apple tree man–to ensure good harvests in the future.

Apples have healing qualities as well. The old saying “an apple a day” comes from the ancient belief that just the presence of apples can have a healing effect on our spirits.
