Bottlenosed dolphins are streamlined swimmers with a gentle nature and grinning mouth. They are found in warm waters worldwide, often close to shore or in bays and lagoons. Dolphins may even venture up larger rivers. These dolphins are sometimes found in the company of larger whales and are unafraid of humans,coming readily to ships , riding bow waves with beautiful coordination. They may jump 20 feet clear of the water! Stories abound of dolphins rescuing people and lost mariners. These dolphins are still common; although pollution and ovefishing by humans have decreased numbers.
