Sandy Williams

I specialize in natural science illustration and design. My studio is located in Southwest Lower Michigan on fifteen acres of gently rolling meadows filled with wildlife, wildflowers, lightly wooded areas and cultivated gardens of flowers and vegetables.

I come from a family of gardeners and its been only natural for me to be inspired by the beautiful gardens my mother and grandmother created. Many of my botanical paintings use specimens from their collections. I’ve been a natural science illustrator for more than twenty five years and I’m a long time member of the Guild of Natural Science  llustrators. My work has been included in books, magazines, murals, ceramic housewares, greeting cards, puzzles, garden flags and more.

The main medium for my paintings is gouache, an opaque watercolor, because of the great amount of detail I can attain. I also work in pen and ink, transparent watercolor, graphite, pastel, colored pencil, acrylics and oil. Besides botanicals, my subjects are also wildlife, domestic animals and landscapes.
